Limited Minipets Economy
It has been several years since the release of limited minipets. Many have been dedicated, lost on inactive or banned accounts, or are simply too loved for some players to trade away. In 2011, how would the influx of additional limited miniatures (of existing types) affect the prices on these miniatures, and would there be any larger ramifications to the economy?
For clarification, I am referring to the following miniatures, and small additions around 10-100 of each by rarity (more Asura, fewer Kanaxai):
Asura, Destroyer, Gray Giant, Ceratadon, Grawl, Yeti, Naga, Oni, Island Guardian, Panda, Shiro'ken, Zhed, Vizu, and Kanaxai.

After some more thought, I changed the lower bound of the range to 10 from 30.
I do have a specific reason in mind, but unfortunately I cannot elaborate on it at this time.

I feel they would slightly decrease in value since more would be available. Also an influx in these minis might spark peoples interest in these minis since they would in a way be "new" again.

Meh. The prices would go way down. All the buyers would say "there's more they are less valuable now" and offer ridiculously low prices. In relation to how many buyers there are, they wouldn't be too unjustified. Supply/Demand would be in rough shape.
I think it would collapse the highend mini market. Everyone would quit, and they would be largely lost for good. Feer Mongering ftw.

well, you can look at 2 limited mini pets that might help you out: greased lightning and Mad kings guard. Both are very limited with the mkg being more so than the gl.....
they only are available for a short time and only to a certain few.
How has the price changed with more of those being introduced into the market?

The Mad King's Guard is actually a good indicator of what I'm looking for; many players seemed to feel that those originally added would be the last. I cannot seem to find a stable price on one now or from they were first released, does anyone have a ballpark estimate for either?
I am not so sure the market would collapse, particularly since adding more of these may bring back some of the infamous, retired traders back into the economy.

First, let me say I could certainly see a release of such pets in the future, excepting the ones given away as GvG rewards, such as Kanaxai and the Island Guardian. Based on the company's prior actions with the rare minis, I certainly do not see more of those being added.
I completely disagree that you can predict the changes that would happen based on the fall of Zippy and MKG. Zippy has dropped so much because of the huge number of them on the market, the release of the black beast, and their association with botters. MKG is worth so much less because now that it is known they are not the rarest pet in the game, people value it in part based on aesthetics...and the thing is fugly.
Prices would certainly fall, but I imagine the ultimate result would be that the prices of these unded pets would move significantly closer to the prices of the ded pets of the same time. In fact, I'm actually quite surprised by the results of the HoM news release. I figured only the prices of the rare unded pets would drop; certainly there was no reason for a decrease in the prices of the ded ones...except the sheep follow the paths they know, and unded has always been much more valuable than ded. I know quite a few people in the market for these pets, and not one of them would dedicate one and take a loss of several thousand ectos, so why the price difference? idk

The more in quantity, the less people will be.. Economics 101..too many, lower the prices. Less there are, higher the price. eg. Panda & Beetle

I actually dont get the craze about the super-duper-rare minis like Panda or Vizu.
People are paying enormous amounts of ectos for them, but why? The HoM doesnt see difference if you ded Panda or first year Devourer (well except for rarity). The wealth show-off? Oh come on, it's just a game who will be (most likely) abandoned due to GW2 release.

show off, I'm pretty sure if people could show their weapons with req+stats in kmd or any other outposts that their prices could go even higher than the kanaxai/pandas/island guardian unded;
Lets say a q8 15^50crystalline sword as an example.

Simply not true. There are more Pandas and Island Guardians than there are of visu, zhed, shiroken, and MKG. You must also keep demand in mind.

Thats not rly sure.. as Most of panda/kanaxai and IG's got lost with dupers on hacked accounts and differend glitches..
Many zheds And shirokens and such got added after those happening so more of em are possibly still in the game

Of course, pets were lost, but many of those were actually the mid-range ones as a result of the duping fiasco. Almost none of truly high end pets were traded during the duping exploit. I don't know of any being lost to accounts being hacked, although I do know of a few perma bans that caused some to exit the game.
...and not THAT many of the mid-range pets were added after the duping.

Why do we need more of these when it's been made crystal clear they provide no benefits towards GW2? To be blunt, if it's the "me too" factor OP then I'd suggest saving up to get what you want or setting more modest goals. The whole point of vanity items is that there aren't enough to go around so you have something to work towards.
Onis, as an example, are now trading at roughly 1/3rd their peak value. Adding more of these to the market will just finish the job and further collapse anything but the absolute rarest of miniatures.

I don't understand why anyone would care if a ubber rare mini pets would benefit you in GW2. You guys act like when GW2 comes out they will shut down the GW1 servers. This simply will not happen there will be the same die hard players playing GW1 as there are now.
I would never dedicate a high end mini my self. But, there are people who do simply to be able to show off their wealth through the HoM. This also helps inflate the prices of these minis since if you are a purist like me you will not buy a dedicated mini.

I honestly hope Anet makes all the Asian into 6th year gifts... I don't even care if they just change the names so people don't complain.
Island Guardian = Twisted Bark
etc.

some of the minis are cute and that factor plays into some (a tiny amount) of their appeal. I would LOVE to have a panda or island guardian for that reason, I dont give my rats behind about how few there are ....I just know I like them and would love to have had one (aint gonna happen)...same for them being ded or unded--wouldnt really care, just want one.
On the other hand the mad kings guard is one of the more rare minis---only a few each year. (greased lightning STILL goes for more than my wallet can produce in a years time)...but its (as has been pointed out) butt uggggghly. So only collectors are really really going to want it---the cutness factor is gone (same for vizu and shiorken sin--ughly buggers they are).
how adversely this affects the market????? /dunno. Though if you did a poll and asked the casual gamer which one of the uber rare minis they would want I highly doubt vizu would be one (unless they play sins)......I would theorize that the panda (like the mpb) would be a high pick for my reason previously stated, thus part of the reason for its higher price.

Honestly, it would likely depend on the amount added, demand and # people that actually have the cash to afford these mini's. e.g. if there's 1000 people with 400+arms who want a panda, and there's only 100 panda's, then 10 more really won't cause much of a price drop. If you started adding several hundred more, then likely some of those people would lose interest (no longer a status symbol) as well as it being easier to acquire in general so the price would take a hit.
